I think the lesson is exactly what the researcher left off with. "More study is needed, more funding is needed." One of the greatest lessons I learned from working as a Technology Facilitator in a Cedar Rapids area school was that technology is a waste if it is not carefully applied.
As an example, several school districts have moved to purchasing Interactive White Boards for every classroom. For a few teachers, these tools are a great benefit to their classroom. However for most, the IWB's are either a glorified projector or not used at all (to the tune of 1-5k a piece from the tax payers).
I use technology where ever I can in my classroom, but this is because I have the training. For teachers without the skills to quickly execute technology based processes, the "new way" of teaching can be oppressively time consuming.
This is my 33rd year in education. Prior to beginning at Luther, I was an elementary teacher, guidance counselor and principal. My wife, Jane, works as a media specialist in the North Winneshiek and Decorah Schools. My oldest son, Nathan, is a graduate student at UCLA and my youngest son, Ben, is a senior at St. Olaf College.
